OpenAI will make AI Chips
OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, now wants to create its own artificial intelligence based chip. The company is also considering possible acquisitions for chip manufacturing. News Engadget and Reuters.
It is said that even though there is a plan, the company is not proceeding with the matter now. However, several ways to address OpenAI's reliability on expensive AI chips came up in discussions last year, people involved told the media.
That means working closely with chipmakers like Nvidia to develop its own AI chips. Also allowing its own suppliers to expand beyond Nvidia’s boundaries.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has put the purchase of AI chips at the top of the company's priority list.
